Nicotine-Free Pouches in India: What They Are and How to Choose One
Nicotine pouches, tobacco pouches and herbal nicotine-free pouches are not the same thing. A plain-English guide for Indian buyers.

Short answer: a nicotine-free pouch contains no nicotine and no tobacco. That is different from a nicotine pouch (tobacco-free but still contains addictive nicotine) and a tobacco pouch like Cool Lip (contains tobacco and nicotine). Always check the pack for "0% nicotine" – not just "tobacco-free".
Three kinds of packets – don't mix them up
| Type | Tobacco | Nicotine | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tobacco pouch | Yes | Yes | Cool Lip-style products |
| Nicotine pouch | No | Yes | "Tobacco-free" nicotine pouches |
| Nicotine-free herbal pouch | No | No | MAR Mouth Chill |
The confusing part is the word "tobacco-free". Many nicotine pouches are tobacco-free, but they still contain nicotine. If your goal is to avoid nicotine, you need a pillow that says 0% nicotine on the pack.
What is inside a nicotine-free herbal pouch?
Instead of tobacco or nicotine, herbal pouches use plant ingredients for flavour and sensation. In MAR Mouth Chill Mint, for example:
- Menthol for the instant cooling feel
- Clove for a warm, clean aroma
- Black pepper for a gentle kick
- Coriander for a fresh, green note
MAR also comes in Coffee and Elaichi.
How to choose a nicotine-free pouch: a checklist
- "0% nicotine" printed on the pack – not just "tobacco-free".
- A clear ingredient list. You should recognise what is inside.
- Vegetarian marking if that matters to you (look for the green dot).
- Honest claims. Be wary of packets that promise to cure anything or help you quit – a freshener is a freshener.
- Buy from the official source to avoid fakes.
Who uses nicotine-free pouches?
- People who like the discreet "tuck it in" format but do not want nicotine.
- Former tobacco users who miss the cooling ritual (with guidance from a doctor where needed).
- Anyone who wants a long-lasting mouth freshener that does not need chewing – drivers, office workers, students.
A note on quitting tobacco
If you are trying to stop using tobacco, you do not have to do it alone. Talk to a doctor, and in India you can call the free National Tobacco Quitline at 1800-11-2356. A herbal pouch can be a tobacco-free habit to reach for, but it is not a treatment. Our guide on quitting gutka and tobacco has more practical steps.
Where to buy MAR nicotine-free pouches
MAR Mouth Chill is sold on buymar.online: from ₹65 per packet, 20 pillows per packet, minimum 4 packets, with up to ₹8 off every packet on bigger packs and free delivery on orders of ₹1,999 or more.
The bottom line
"Tobacco-free" is not the same as "nicotine-free". If you want the pillow experience without either, choose a herbal pouch that clearly says 0% tobacco and 0% nicotine.
